White Doek
Growing up is quite an interesting phenomenon if of course we look at the brighter side of things, otherwise it does really feel like a scam. It is intriguing how the mind develops and changes with whatever tide of perspectives, hearings and experiences divulged to it. What you thought before, or, what you were stigmatized to before can instantaneously change and be radicalized with a piece of rational information, if not instantaneously then manifestantaneously (look, I've just created a new word).
I wrote an article just recently on Chivhanhu, where I acknowledged and respected semi-traditional semi-prophetic/Christian blended practices by a chunk of Zimbabwean people. I furthermore slandered such people's socio-economic styles which render them impaired/negligent to and inconsiderate of medical and legal systems, road and infrastructural developments, industrialization, science and technology, design and architecture, and all things which shape the landscape and altitude of developed countries. Nonetheless, on the article I didn't digress into the high moral ethics of the Chivhanhu women as I'd wished, truthfully I didn't want to condense the article in glitter, which is what I'll delve into here, apostolic women.
Did you know the white garment represents purity? In a spiritual and personal sense. I have worked in the streets long enough to have been accustomed and conscientized to the most common of religious denominations, apostles; they are the most common civilians in the CBD as money changers and vendors. Conscientiousness however has further sparked certain appeals in me, things my younger/ignorant self wouldn't bat an eye on, one of which is The girl in a white doek! — She's ever in a white doek, seamless and without piercings and overbearing adornings, skin so clear and smile so bright. Sometimes I think I'm an old soul for appreciating simplistic things, or I'm just a traditional man.
Despite all of my peeves about Chivhanhu people, wherewhich apostles dominate, I find the moral compass of the girls very charming and distinguished from that of other religious denominations where elitism and selfish liberty thrives. The most identifiable thing to apostolic girls is that they're always in a white garment, if it's not their dresses or blouses it's their doeks, I wouldn't know if their thong color would play a role in affirming their purity and if they wear white thongs under their casual outfits, but what I know for sure is that the common garment is their doek. They will wear their casual outfits with yeezy kicks and biker/puff jackets and make sure to wrap a doek over their scalp unashamedly. It's like an emblem of pride and as it gets better it goes to show to what extent they value and respect purity in all of its disciplines spiritually, hygienically, personally and sexually. You cannot rock a white doek knowing you're impure in some sense unless you have a diabolical spirit of deceit, oh how the madzibabas of the church will deal with that!
In 2020 my Apostolic homeboy wedded, I remember organizing youths in my community to attend and celebrate the wedding in the suburbs; it was an astounding sight! There were beautiful young girls of all pigmentations in white doeks gracing the area, I was chuffed for heaven knows the days. When I say beautiful you must understand that I am suburban and I know the standards and lineaments for a pretty chick, I know what I saw my friend, grace! People think apostolic faith is rural/indigenous, sure yes that's true on a large scale but it has urbanized and quite the affluent congregants too you see. The only thing that held me back from moving a sweetone at the venue was visible indifference and a childhood stigma I still upheld about "postori" people. If you were postori in school you were a joke, but of course that was out of ignorance otherwise that is the most successful religion in Zimbabwe!
Purity is not the only selling quality of "postori" girls, things encompassing infidelity and paternity fraud are unlikely scandals in apostolic marriages, exceptions are there but exceptions aren't standards. Also their faith, their faith is centered on "wunhu/ubuntu/humility", it is an indigenous religion, they predominantly deal with real life problems at church and so have an unbiased understanding of life and people. They are not a class inclined people. Postori women, no matter how pretty or how light skinned, you will find them doing everything every living Zimbabwean is doing without holding onto classist and/or pretty standards, they change money, they sell floor polish/cobra, they sell cosmetics, clothes, foodstuffs, candles, herbs, fruits and vegetables, they are not afraid or shy to run this life with what they have, the real Poverbs 31 enterprising women. You are sure to land a home builder from them in these Zimbabwean circumstances, they aren't blinded distorted or filtered by Western standards influenced on social media platforms nor do they attempt to maintain a showy showy life, nor do they possess superficial and high entry level standards for interpersonal and/or intimate relationships, their orientations are straight and they are aware of what really matters in life, flashy things vacations and extravaganzas are bonuses to them; you will not find them in the clubs shaking nyash doping hubbly and drinking alcohol after Sabbath, their priorities are straight, they fear God, and for them there's nobody to impress and their culture is rooted so deeply it's rare to find them in the wrong places or wrong clothes.
When I sold bananas by the Lutheran House on corner Herbert Chitepo and L Takawira in 2021, there was a really pretty light skinned lady in a white doek a cream top and a zambia wrapped around her bottom, she sold bar soaps and changed money on the pavement, I had a big fat crush on that lady but just couldn't figure my way around her. The thing is you have to be "postori" to court them, which is a huge hindrance, but I think about swindling one good one from her faith into mine and I was telling my young brother about that on a ride just recently, he said "well they're good women but there's only one problem bhudi, they will put little stones in your food and holy water in your bath tub. Also, akuna muzi ongathunq"intithu so when problems arise inevitably, they will default to their Chivhanhu practices and seek remedies or quickly find you a 'mporofiti'" we had a good laugh whilst mending his rear wheel just by the Barbourfields flyover along Luveve road where there is an off-shoot apostolic bush church down the low lands. Nonetheless, women in white doeks are a respectful people, they know structure and believe in leadership, I do wonder a lot about how extensive and effective their religious teachings are that it acutely impacts their lifestyle and personal landscape without snooping and having one leg in the church and the other in the secular world. If one is looking to marry you'll never go wrong with apostolic women. There is such a culturism embedded in their fibres which sustains moral decency and uprightness, you couldn't compromise. When you have seen what the world has to offer, you will realize most of Zimbabwe's golden women are scattered in the apostolic faith in the mountains. There's just a price to pay to get them and most of us conscious men aren't willing to buy in, such a hoop to go through!
With that said, women in white doeks continue to morally charm me, I've seen the worst out there, women whose whole personality is centered on their buttocks, streets is messy.
